Players and TV viewers were aghast to learn that Motherchucker, a crowd favourite in recent years, had been attacked by a pelican and sustained a nasty head injury while riding his bike to Lake Jualbup for Round 6.
However, Mochu showed that he is made of stern stuff. On his arrival at the locus bocci, he explained to the world that he had bravely fought off a rabid pelican. He claimed that, despite bleeding heavily from a head wound, he had shown real determination and ingenuity. He said he had seized a winter coat from a passing dachshund, Pixie, tearing at the coat with his teeth to fashion a crude bandage, which he stretched over his head and managed to staunch the blood flow.
Although he was clearly shocked after the near-death experience. Motherchucker insisted that he play on as scheduled.
“I owe it to my fans to turn up and win,” he shouted defiantly, before his first game. That game saw him play Soft (Banker but no Brad). Banker was clearly smarting after being lampooned in the press for being the league’s cellar dwellers, indicating that he was keen to play well this time.
“I am keen to play well this time,” he said.
Although the score line was much healthier for Soft than it had been in Round 5, wherein Banker was pointless in Soft’s two games, Motherchucker was still too strong this time, winning 8-5.
The Young Ones were represented by Gonad on his patma, as Barney was a no-show. Barney has subsequently explained that he was quite literally stuck at his crochet group. He said that he and three others had been crocheting a rug and he had accidentally joined his own jumper to his side of the rug, sewing a number of rows before realising his predicament. Not wanting to upset the others or damage the rug, he had to gently unpick those rows, a task that he said took more than two hours.
Faced with Barney’s unexplained absence, Gonad showed great composure for one of such tender years. In a hard-fought tussle, he eventually eclipsed Super Big Buzz-Balls (BP and S&M, but no Buzz) 7-5.
Beastly Justice continued its fine form in the chilly breezes of Lake Jualbup. In Soft’s second game of the day, Serge and BoB made short work of the encounter, prevailing 7-2.
Yes, BJ was rubbing its ungloved hands in glee, as the lads also scored a tasty forfeit from the non-attendance of Pisco Piranhas.
That saw BJ cement its position atop the ladder with two home-and-away rounds to play.
In the fourth and final game of the round, The Singularity (RE sans SNHDT) had been tipped in the markets as having a very good chance of upsetting the injured Motherchucker. However, Mochu showed why he’s currently coming second and The Singularity is second-last. Motherchucker won comfortably, 7-1.
