AATBL invades Pemberton

One of the Beedelup House Cottages

The much-anticipated 2025 AATBL road trip saw us descend in numbers upon Pemberton on 29 November. We spent the weekend at Beedelup House Cottages, and most of us did not completely disgrace ouselves.

Notably, however, Reg did reveal an aspect of his personality. During dinner, as we were pouring our drinks to accompany dinner, Reg poured himself a healthy serve of bourbon, as if it were wine. When those near him expressed surprise, Reg claimed not to have read the “bourbon” part of the label. He then quickly downed the bourbon and poured himself another. Accordingly, it was decided that our Reg would henceforth be known as “Beast of Bourbon” or “BoB”.

We enjoyed a spirited game of mini golf at the adjacent Karribank Resort. Although some of the group claimed to have played golf before, nothing about the day’s play suggested that this was true.

The mini golf was followed by lunch at Lakeside Cafe, during which Brad presented an most informative talk about creative nosepicking in retirement.

That evening, we treated ourselves to a delicious dinner at Jaspers. The fact that Barney burped loudly and at length, and finished the evening with his underpants on his head seemed not to dampen the celebratory atmosphere. The Jaspers management team and local police seemed very understanding.
