New teams for 2017

The 2016 AGM saw the implementation of sweeping changes.

blenderFirst, the existing teams went into the blender. The arrangement of six teams with an annual draft was abandoned in favour of seven teams of two players. This move recognised the fact that Buzz Lightbeer is likely to be in the US for at least the whole of next season and probably longer, leaving us with 14 players while he’s away.

The other big change is that the proxy principle has been retired. From now on, if a team fails to field at least one player for a scheduled game, the team will cop a 7-nil loss.

The new teams, which can choose new names, if they wish to do so, look like this:

Each team is asked to advise the website elves of its name by 31 January 2016.

Buzz was elected AATBL president. Some are said to be agitating for a re-count, but they will first need to come up with the fee ($2.50).

Others are wondering whether he will carry out his promise to build a wall along the Rio Swan, to prevent the league from having games south of the river.
