Round 4 was moved forward a couple of weeks to avoid home games for the Eagles and Dockers. Although the tweaking of the AATBL schedule to accomodate the lesser league seems to have worked for both of those teams, it might have knocked Pineapple Express out of step. Although BP and RE were the only players wearing team shirts at Allen Park on 19 May, they couldn’t win any of their three games and finished the round in last place.
They lost 5-8 to Superbarney (Barney without SuperMario), 4-7 to Mother Reg and 5-7 to Bank Tellers (Banker without Stella). Reg and Mochu also won Mother Reg’s only other game, usurping Cannonbra 7-3, thereby hanging onto the top of the ladder.
Storm Surge (Serge sans Stormboy) took one from two, going down 5-7 to Superbarney, but prevailing 7-3 against Cannonbra. Superbarney was not quite so super in Barney’s third game, as he lost 8-1 to Go Dig Buzz (Buzz flying the flag on his own, while Gonad and Digger were off having their spray-tans done).
Buzz’s other game was a reversal of fortunes, going down 1-7 to Bank Tellers. Ordinarily a picture of equanimity, Banker appeared to rile just a little as he made a point of asking people to get his team’s name right. “It’s not that hard. We’re not the Tank Belles or Tell the Bloody Bankers. We’re Bank Tellers. Write it down”.
