Round 3 has a bit of everything

Brad explains why he likes his thumbs so much

OK, it didn’t have Barney, Stella or Serge, but round 3, at Lower Bay View Park, otherwise offered a veritable variety show to the spectators and the TV audience.

The panoply of entertainment on display included:

  • close games and complete thrashings;
  • some thoroughly brilliant shots and some games that were only noteworthy for the low standard of play;
  • Reg doing a spirited Joe Cocker impersonation;
  • Brad discussing his body parts; and
  • Gonad lecturing on the benefits of industry super funds.

Ladder-leading Mario’s Gonads lost only their second game for the season so far, and that was by the narrowest of margins, 6-7, to the resurgent Resurgence. They won their other two games, one with the same narrow margin over Mobank, and the other a 9-0 whupping of Big Brad Pineapples.

Mobank did manage to win its other game, a 7-4 win over Reg Barney (Reg sans Barney, as Barney was literally on the buses, lost somewhere between the Lynwood terminus and Mosman Park).

This loss by Reg was despite his efforts to put Mobank off its game before play with his spirited impersonation of Joe Cocker singing “With a Little Help From My Friends”.

By the end of the day’s play, Mobank had ceded top spot to Mario’s Gonads. Although some members of the press had wanted to put some questions to Motherchucker about his early-season predictions, he did not make an appearance at the press conference.

Big Brad Pineapples, who entered round 3 in last place, managed to climb a short distance off the canvas, with an 8-0 win over the Stellar Diggers (Digger flying solo, as Stella continues to have issues with the Samsung Kero 1.5). This moved the BBPs up into sixth place.

Despite that drubbing, Digger managed to drag his team from sixth place to fifth by day’s end, with an 8-5 win over Dog’s Balls. Speaking of ladder movements, Dog’s Balls plummeted from fourth place to last, also losing their other game, 3-7, to Reg (minus) Barney.

Reg Barney also slipped down a rung, from third to fourth, thanks to a 1-8 loss to Resurgence (RE on his own, as Sir Justice Airwick JAL UAE was taking another RDO).
