The names, they are a changin’

Plus ca change: Cannonball lobs a shot for The Ball Boys, one of the few teams that retains its original name.

It goes like this. The Pittsburgh Stealers used to be the GBU. The artists formerly known as iBocce have become the Dirty Three. When the music stopped, the Nomads became the Inscrotables. In 2015, the Pineapple Shooters became the Jolly Rogers. At this point, only the Flying Pigs and the Ball Boys retain their original names.

So, new names or old, some turned up to play at Perry Lakes in April. The Inscrotables and the Flying Pigs failed to make an appearance and some of their fixtures were played by proxy.

The Ball Boys won two from three, beating the Jolly Rogers 7-5 and the improxified Inscrotables 7-0, but losing 6-8 to the Dirty Three. The Jolly Rogers slipped from top spot, also losing 7-1 to the Inscrotables’ proxies, but defeating the Pittsburgh Stealers 7-3. The Stealers had a bad day in Stella’s absence, also losing 8-3 to the Dirty Three and 4-4 to the Pigs, by proxy.

Controversy, as it were, erupted after the April round, when Sir Justice “Serge” Airwick MPH ABS claimed that he, too, is the sister of the late rock idol Prince. Claiming that his sibling relationship with The Purple One should be clear on the basis of physical similarities alone, Serge has said that he will submit to DNA testing, if his expenses of doing so are met. He estimates that his expenses would be in the region of US$30m. In the face of outrage about his claims on social media, Serge says that his detractors are clearly racist and sexist.
